Chimaera (or Chimaira/Khimaira) was a monstrous fire-breathing beast was of divine origin according to the Homeric poems. The monster’s body comprised of three different animals - a lion, (the fore part of her body,) a dragon, (the hind part of her body,) and a goat, (the mid-section of her body). She also had the heads of these three animals as well as a serpentine tail.
The King Iobates ordered Bellerophon the hero to slay Chimaera. He defeated the monster by driving a lead-tipped lance deep down her throat, eventually suffocating her. Whilst battling with Chimaera, Bellerophon  rode on the back of Pegasos, a winged stallion.
